Liam Delap to join Man Utd

And Sky Sports UK’s Kaveh Solhekol has added that United are also very close to completing the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

“What we are hearing is that Manchester United are in pole position to sign him,” Solhekol said.

“One source has gone as far as telling us that he believes that the deal is very close and the player would be happy to move to Manchester United.

“Even though United are not having a great season, he still feels that they are a big, big club.”

Man Utd are prepared to pay the €35 million release clause in Delap’s Ipswich contract.

United have been in a fierce race with Chelsea for the striker but Sky Sports believe that the Red Devils have won.

Delap has been enjoying an exceptional breakthrough campaign with Ipswich.

In the Premier League, he has scored 12 goals in just 35 appearances for a side that have got relegated.

He is the son of former Derby, Southampton and Stoke star Rory Delap, who was most famous for his incredible long throws.

Delap Jr started his career in the youth system of Derby before being signed by Man City in 2019.

He was very highly rated at City and went on a series of loan moves to Stoke, Preston and Hull.

After impressing in the Championship for Hull in 2023-24, he was signed permanently by Ipswich in the summer of 2024 for €24m plus the aforementioned buyback clause.

Delap has now emerged as one of the most promising youngsters in the Premier League.
