Gabriel Batistuta is, perhaps, Fiorentina’s biggest icon, scoring 203 times in 331 matches for the Viola, winning Serie B, a Coppa Italia and an Italian Supercup during a nine-year stay at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Salah, 31, followed in the striker’s footsteps during a loan spell back in 2015 when he couldn’t get his breakthrough at Chelsea.

The Egyptian scored six goals in 16 Serie A matches with Fiorentina desperate to make the loan deal permanent.

However, Salah instead signed for another Italian team in Roma, coincidentally the same club Batistuta moved to in order to fulfil his dream of winning a Serie A title.

From there he moved to Liverpool and the rest is history.

During a sit-down chat with the Argentinian broadcaster, Salah declared himself a Messi fan and also lifted the lid on his meeting with “Batigol” in Florence.

When asked who his favourite Argentinian player of all time is, Salah replied: "[Lionel] Messi. I love Messi. Messi is Messi.

“I love [Gabriel] Batistuta as well. I met him once in Fiorentina when I was there and got his t-shirt signed, but yeah, I love Messi.”

Mac Allister needs to hit the gym says Salah

Salah is now team-mates with another Argentina World Cup winner in Alexis Mac Allister, many pundits’ tip for Premier League signing of the season.

Signed for a bargain £35 million from Brighton, Mac Allister has been excellent as Liverpool assemble another title challenge.

The striker believes Mac Allister is a “very good” player but joked that he needed to spend a little more time in the gym.

"He's very good,” Salah said.

“Overall he's a good guy, he's trying to improve a lot. He needs a little push in the gym but he's really professional, he looks after himself; the way he eats and practises - he just needs to work in the gym a little bit more but overall he's very good.

“He does go [to the gym] but in my opinion he needs to go more [laughs]!"
