Chelsea have been given hope that Napoli forward Victor Osimhen may yet become their player.

Reports broke on Wednesday from Naples that the Serie A club and PSG had reached an agreement over a fee for Osimhen.

This threatened to be a killer blow for the Blues, who have long coveted the Nigeria international striker and appeared to be in prime position to sign him just a few weeks ago.

PSG, it has been reported, are ready to use some of the money they will save on Kylian Mbappe’s wages to lure the 25-year-old to the club.

But while the news in Italy is bad for Chelsea, there is less certainty in Paris that the Ligue 1 champions are about to move for Osimhen.

RMC reports: “While the Neapolitan press reports a big step between PSG and Napoli on the transfer of Victor Osimhen, as RMC Sport indicated to you a few days ago, there is still no agreement between PSG, Napoli and the player for the striker's arrival in the capital.

“The Nigerian No.9, familiar with the French championship from his time with Lille, is however interested in Paris Saint-Germain.

“But for now, PSG does not intend to part ways with either Goncalo Ramos or Randal Kolo Muani this summer.”

What this means for Chelsea

This is excellent news for Chelsea, who remain firmly in the hunt to capture the prolific forward, particularly if PSG’s interest is not as strong as those in Italy wish it was.

Osimhen, meanwhile, will be seeking to play Champions League football next season, but with Napoli insistent that his release clause of around €120 million is triggered to allow him to leave, there are only a handful of clubs that might afford him.

One of those is potentially Chelsea, although they may find that they face competition yet from Premier League rivals Liverpool, Manchester United or Arsenal, while PSG’s participation in the race for Osimhen should not be discounted either.
