The only exceptions are a handful of players, such as Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez, who extended their deals until the end of the Club World Cup and will depart once the tournament is over.

Liverpool legend Trent Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid. Initially a free transfer, Los Blancos agreed to pay a whopping €10 million to sign him a month earlier so as to have him available for the Club World Cup.

Man City legend Kevin de Bruyne left the club after 10 brilliant years at the Etihad in order to sign for Napoli.

Jorginho and Kieran Tierney left Arsenal. Jorginho returned to Brazil with Flamengo, while Tierney moved to Celtic.

Thomas Partey left Arsenal on 30 June and was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual abuse for offences that are reported to have taken place between 2021-2022. This has seen the Gunners face fierce criticism for continuing to employ the player for as long as they did. His future in football is now at risk.

Manchester United have released Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen, while Jonny Evans has retired.

Real Madrid will release club legend Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez at the end of the Club World Cup after their contracts were extended for a few more weeks so they could play the tournament. AC Milan have confirmed they will sign Modric.

Atletico Madrid's Reinildo Mandava has joined Sunderland on a free transfer.

In Germany, Leroy Sane at Bayern Munich and Jonathan Tah at Bayer Leverkusen saw out their contracts. Tah joined Bayern, while Sane moved to Galatasaray.

Thomas Muller left Bayern Munich after they were eliminated from the Club World Cup following a glittering career.

Lukas Nmecha, meanwhile, has left Wolfsburg and signed for Leeds on a free transfer.

Eric Dier joined Monaco on a free transfer when his Bayern contract ran out. Monaco also signed Paul Pogba on a Bosman after his 18-month doping suspension.
