Premier League most assists: Latest standings as MD1 action continues
What could prove to be a thrilling race to provide the most Premier League assists in the 2025/26 season is now under way, with Liverpool sensation Mohamed Salah the player to beat.
Mo Salah had the Premier League most assists last season, racking up an astonishing total of 18 goals created, which was the best winning total since Kevin De Bruyne posted a record-equalling tally of 20 in the 2019/20 campaign.
De Bruyne was named the most creative player in England’s top flight on a remarkable four occasions, but he is not a contender in the new season after leaving Manchester City to join Napoli in Serie A, having spent 10 wonderful seasons with Pep Guardiola’s side.
The absence of De Bruyne from the race helps the chances of Salah, who is hoping to prevail for a third time. Also boosted is Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, who also comes into the campaign as one of the early favourites to challenge for the Playmaker of the Season award.
Saka provided 10 assists in 2024/25 – a total he had reached by the end of November – and he still finished near the top of the creative charts despite missing a large portion of the year through injury, as the Gunners finished second in the league table for a third straight campaign.
Newcastle United star Jacob Murphy ultimately finished as the runner-up in the EPL assist rankings last season, just ahead of Anthony Elanga. Those two are now team-mates as part of an impressive squad at St James’ Park after the ex-Manchester United star left Nottingham Forest in a big-money transfer.
Antonee Robinson, Morgan Rogers and Mikkel Damsgaard were among seven stars who hit double figures last season, finishing just ahead of Premier League veterans Bruno Fernandes and Heung-min Son in the standings.
While Fernandes will expect to be in the running again this season, particularly with new striker Benjamin Sesko to create chances for, Son's departure from Tottenham should lead to more creative opportunities for other Spurs players, though the hopes of James Maddison have been dashed by an ACL injury.

Along with Sesko's arrival, Fernandes has been joined by two exciting creative talents, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, so Man Utd will expect to have multiple players racking up impressive assist tallies in 2025/26, as they hope to end a long wait for an Old Trafford winner in this award.
But one of Salah’s biggest challengers could come from closer to home after Liverpool splashed out to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. The Germany star produced 23 Bundesliga assists in only 63 games across the last two seasons and arrives in England with huge expectations.

Cole Palmer is on a high after winning the Club World Cup with Chelsea, Rayan Cherki has joined Man City, Martin Odegaard is a consistent threat for Arsenal and Ollie Watkins previously prevailed in 2023/24, so there is a massive array of candidates according to the pre-season betting odds.
Summer moves for Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also mean those two stars could be candidates at Everton after being short of playing time at Man City and Chelsea respectively.
Assists are a more variable statistic than goals, so we could be in for a much more open race here than we end up seeing in the top scorer Golden Boot battle, but based on recent history it is still likely to be a big name player representing a major club who prevails.
This page will be updated over the course of the 2025/26 season as we take an in-depth look at the latest standings for Premier League assists. Check back after every matchday to see who is in the leading positions.
Premier League most assists 2025/26
The 2025/26 league season is now getting started with teams having worked through their pre-season schedules taking place across the world.
The top-flight campaign began on Friday August 15 when champions Liverpool took on Bournemouth at Anfield, giving Salah and Wirtz the chance to take an early lead in these standings.
However, neither star registered an assist, with Hugo Ekitike instead creating a goal, as well as scoring one himself.
Liverpool won that thrilling contest 4-2, helping to start their title defence well and banish the memory from when they lost the Community Shield to Crystal Palace last week.
Other top matches in the first week of the season will see Man Utd host Arsenal on Sunday August 17, with Fernandes and Saka looking to get up and running.
That comes after Man City thumped Wolves in a 4-0 away win a day earlier as they began life without De Bruyne. New midfielder Tijjani Reijnders impressed on his debut.

2014/15 | Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea) | 18 |

The 2024/25 campaign was an outstanding one for Mo Salah. Not only did he top the Premier League assist rankings for the second time in his career with 18 from 38 appearances, but he also racked up a sensational 29 goals to claim the Golden Boot award.
Most importantly, the Egypt star’s performances led Liverpool to Premier League title glory and he then signed a new contract to end a year of huge speculation over his future.
Salah comfortably finished six assists clear of Jacob Murphy (Newcastle) and seven ahead of Anthony Elanga (Nottingham Forest). His main challenge, though, had come from Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who raced on to seven assists from his first seven games and had then reached 10 by the end of November, meaning he was leading the standings and looking unstoppable.
However, the England winger’s hopes were dashed by a hamstring injury that ruled him out for more than three months of the top-flight campaign, allowing Salah to claim the lead midway through the year and ultimately storm to the Playmaker of the Season award largely unchallenged.
Ollie Watkins topped the assist standings for 2023/24, registering 13 assists. He also had 19 goals in a fine Premier League campaign, helping Aston Villa to surprisingly reach the top four.
England striker Watkins saw off a strong challenge from Chelsea attacking midfielder Cole Palmer (11 assists) to win the Playmaker of the Season award and became the first Villa player to achieve the feat.
Kevin De Bruyne also made a late charge up the assists rankings after missing much of that season through injury. His creative form was crucial to Man City's title pursuit as Pep Guardiola's men won a historic fourth straight crown. But he had to settle for a share of third place in these standings with eight other creative stars, all of whom had 10 assists.
De Bruyne did have the most Premier League assists in 2022/23, setting up 16 goals as Man City won the title. Salah and Leandro Trossard were tied for second place that year with 12 assists each.
Incredibly, it was the fourth time that De Bruyne has topped the Premier League assist charts since signing for Man City from Wolfsburg in 2015.
It is an impressive list of names who have previously topped the EPL assist rankings over the course of a whole season. Salah has now achieved the feat twice, while another Liverpool great to have triumphed is Steven Gerrard.

Arsenal great Henry produced his astonishing total of 20 assists in the 2002/03 season. It took 17 years for someone to match it, with De Bruyne achieving the feat in 2019/20.
Mesut Ozil came agonisingly close to claiming a share of the record in 2015/16, recording 19 assists in a brilliant individual season for Arsenal.
Prior to matching the record, De Bruyne also had a near miss of his own, producing 18 assists in the 2016/17 campaign. Two years earlier, Cesc Fabregas also produced an 18-assist campaign for Chelsea.
Salah had a shot at the record last season because he had reached his winning total of 18 by the middle of April. However, he was unable to register an assist in any of Liverpool's last six matches of the campaign.
Most assists in a single Premier League game
The highest total in a single Premier League game is four assists and it is a feat which has now been achieved by nine different EPL players.

Jeremy Doku was the last man to do it in November 2023.
In a sensational performance, Doku scored once and had four assists as Man City thrashed Bournemouth 6-1 in the Premier League. Then a 21-year-old, Doku made history as the youngest EPL player to have recorded four assists in a single game.
Paul Pogba had been the previous player to achieve it, creating four goals when Man Utd beat Leeds 5-1 in August 2021.
Harry Kane, Emmanuel Adebayor and Dusan Tadic are three of the players who have had four-assist matches in the Premier League.
Arsenal players seem to fare particularly well in this record, as the other four stars to register four assists in a game all did so while representing the Gunners. They are Dennis Bergkamp, Jose Antonio Reyes, Cesc Fabregas and Santi Cazorla.
Premier League most assists of all time
Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has the most Premier League assists of all time.
Giggs reached a huge total of 162 assists across an illustrious top-flight career that spanned 632 matches.
Kevin De Bruyne was fast in rising fast up the standings throughout his time in England, ending his final season on 119 assists, within 43 of the record held by Giggs.
At the start of the 2025/26 season, ex-Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas was in third place with 111 assists, with Wayne Rooney next on 103.
Frank Lampard (102), Dennis Bergkamp (94), David Silva (93), Steven Gerrard (92), James Milner (89) and Mohamed Salah (87) were the other EPL greats sitting in the top 10 for goals created when this season started.
It is Man City star De Bruyne who has the best assists per game total in the top-10 list. He was the fastest player to reach 50 EPL assists, doing so in just 123 games, and also the quickest to a century, getting there in the space of only 237 matches.
De Bruyne moved up to second place overall in the 2023/24 season but his hopes of ever passing Giggs now appear to be over after his Man City career came to an end.
As for Salah, his remarkable 2024/25 campaign saw him remove Man Utd great David Beckham (80) from the top 10.
Even if he does not quite match last season's stunning effort of 18 assists, Salah has a strong chance of moving further up the all-time rankings during the course of 2025/26. He started the campaign just 13 away from reaching a century.
