Several members of the Chelsea first-team squad are reportedly concerned by the club’s lack of summer arrivals following their worst finish in Premier League history last year.

The Blues finished in a lowly 12th place in the 2022/23 season and picked up their lowest tally of points since the Premier League was formed in 1992.

Todd Boehly’s arrival as owner saw the Blues immediately splash the cash on big-name stars last summer, but that approach has been altered to focus mostly on signing the best young talents in the game.

However, some players are said to be worried about the lack of difference-making first-team signings that have been acquired this window.

Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson are the only two senior purchases so far this summer, with Diego Moreira and Angelo Gabriel also arriving through the door but they are expected to link up with the Blues’ U23 team or be loaned out next campaign.

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo is Chelsea’s number one summer target, but weeks of negotiations with the south coast club have not yet yielded a deal. In fact, Chelsea have seen two offers rejected by the Seagulls; the latest of which was worth €70 million.

Chelsea squad growing frustrated

According to the Daily Mail, some members of the Chelsea first-team are growing concerned with the lack of activity on the transfer front.

While the Blues have only added three players this term (including Moreira), there have seen 11 players depart, with David Datro Fofana the only one of that 11 to leave on loan.

They have fetched good fees for the likes of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Edouard Mendy, but this has not yet been fully reinvested into new acquisitions. Caicedo is expected to join, however a deal has been dragged on and an agreement doesn’t appear to be any closer than a month ago.

With the start of the Premier League season edging ever closer, Mauricio Pochettino’s squad could be getting restless, although early signs have been positive, with the former Spurs manager reportedly able to cultivate a team-spirit that was absent last year.
