Wolfsburg star Micky van de Ven has revealed that he is keen to move, and his destination could well be Anfield.

The Dutch centre-back is currently on international duty preparing for the U21 European Championship set to start next week. In the Dutch camp, he was interviewed by ESPN and he made no attempt to disguise his ambitions.

The interviewer asked the 22-year-old whether he will play European football after all next season despite Wolfsburg embarrassingly dropping out of international contention on the final day of the Bundesliga. His response was telling: "Perhaps I will. I hope so."

"I'm obviously very happy in Wolfsburg," he continued. "So I wouldn't mind playing in Wolfsburg for another season. But if I get the chance to leave, then I would like to grasp that."

The next Van Dijk?

FootballTransfers profiled the Dutch youngster in March and stated that he could be an ideal option for Liverpool. And the Reds have indeed been eyeing Van de Ven for a while - now, a move could be on the cards.

Liverpool recently announced that Jorg Schmadtke would take over the club's sporting director duties for the foreseeable future. The German, it may be recalled, was at Wolfsburg previously - and it was he who brought Van de Ven to the Bundesliga in 2021.

Moreover, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool are looking to add a left-footed centre-back this summer, perhaps with an eye towards eventually replacing Virgil van Dijk, who plays on the left side of the Reds' central defence.

Van de Ven would fit the bill perfectly - the left-footer is one of the Bundesliga's fastest players (not just defenders), a solid passer and proactive both in possession and out of it.

He is young and still has a massive upside, plus he could be relatively affordable despite having recently signed a new deal because Wolfsburg have been notoriously bad at getting proper value out of their sales in recent times.

"Hopefully, yes. Hopefully," the Dutchman responded when asked by ESPN about taking the next step in his career after the Euros. Could the Premier League be an option? "Perhaps, yes. Who knows?"
