Harry Maguire to leave Man Utd: The state of play - Fabrizio Romano
Fabrizio Romano says that there is a concrete chance that Harry Maguire will leave Manchester United this summer.
It has been widely reported in recent months that Maguire will depart before the start of next season in order to find first-team football ahead of Euro 2024
And Romano says there is a very good chance of that occurring as he provides a state of play on Maguire’s transfer future.

What did Romano say about Harry Maguire?
“It will be a big summer for Manchester United as other experienced players could leave,” Romano wrote in CaughtOffside.
“There will be a direct conversation between Harry Maguire and Erik ten Hag soon. Sources feel there’s a concrete chance to part ways and leave the club also to help Harry playing more looking forward to the Euros.
“But the right bid has to arrive, so the process will take some time. Man United are open to letting him leave, but there’s nothing concrete with any other clubs at the moment.
“What will this mean for the Man Utd captaincy? I don’t have updates on this at the moment, let’s see what decision Ten Hag comes to during pre-season.”
Maguire has endured two miserable past seasons for Man Utd.
After an error-prone 2021-22 season, he lost his place in the first team during the past campaign as Erik Ten Hag preferred Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his centre back pairing.
When Maguire has played he has often struggled, including two huge errors in the Europa League quarter-final defeat to Sevilla.
Maguire dropped to fifth choice in the centre back pecking order at United, with left-back Luke Shaw even preferred to him recently in the absence of Martinez and Varane.
The 30-year-old is reported to want to leave in the summer in order to protect his position for the England national team ahead of Euro 2024.
Aston Villa have been linked with a move for him, as have some Italian teams.
Maguire joined Man Utd from Leicester in a world record deal for a defender in 2019.
He has made 175 appearances and scored seven goals.
