Atletico Madrid are concerned they could miss out on a windfall this summer, with Chelsea appearing increasingly unlikely to turn Joao Felix’s loan into a permanent deal.

Felix joined Chelsea in January and became an integral part of Graham Potter’s side, starting every game he was available for despite only scoring twice in ten games.

But the 23-year-old has been relegated to the bench since Potter was sacked, prompting fears in Madrid that Atletico may not be able to sell Felix as previously anticipated.

DECISION: Chelsea make Felix call as Premier League rivals plot move

Chelsea paid €11 million to loan Felix and were believed to be keen on signing a player of his talent permanently, with Atletico hoping to recoup the €127m they paid for him in 2019.

Felix is not a part of Diego Simeone’s plans at Atletico despite signing a one-year extension prior to joining Chelsea, with the La Liga side enjoying a resurgence of form since his departure.

However, Atletico believe the return of Felix ‘could be a problem’, particularly as they were requiring on his sale to fund their summer transfer business, with deals proving difficult otherwise.

Atletico hoping for Newcastle move for Felix

Atletico, who would be ‘more than happy’ to receive even €80m for Felix according to Spanish outlet Cadena SER, are hoping Newcastle come in for the Portuguese forward if Chelsea opt against a permanent deal.

Newcastle had reportedly enquired about a loan for Felix in January and Atletico believe the English side’s current Champions League position, combined with their wealthy financial status, could prompt a return for him in the summer.

NO GO!: Why Chelsea must avoid €100m Felix transfer

The Magpies, however, are not believed to be considering a big money move for Felix, particularly given his difficult start to life in England.

With Felix having no future at Atletico and a permanent move to Chelsea looking less likely by the day, the ex-Benfica man could be left in limbo this summer unless he can recapture his best form before the conclusion of the season.
