Are you watching Man Utd? Spurs warned over Kane’s future amid Conte contract troubles

Tottenham have been warned that if the contract of manager Antonio Conte is allowed to expire, they face losing top performers Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min.

Conte’s contract with the club expires next June and there appears to have been little movement in terms of a new deal.

The Italian, meanwhile, has been widely credited with a revival in Tottenham’s fortunes, although his relationship with the board since he took over in November 2021 has been difficult and there was even a suggestion he could leave as a result over disagreements in transfer policy.

Conte’s stock has certainly risen over his time with Spurs, but there is no certainty where he might be in a year’s time – and that is a major headache for the London club.

Ex-Tottenham player and manager Tim Sherwood told Sky Sports News: “Let's face it, Conte only has until the end of the season. I mean he's not signed a new contract. You are asking Harry Kane and Son to extend their contracts, why would you extend your contract? If you believe in this manager if your manager is going to be there until the end of the season.”

Man Utd and Bayern watching Kane situation

Certainly, there will be clubs watching developments closely, with Manchester United and Bayern Munich both closely linked with a move for Kane. There has also been interest from Chelsea.

The England striker is a player who has long been wanted by the Premier League’s top clubs but a long contract that expires in 2024 has proven a sticking point. Indeed, he tried to push through a move to Manchester City in 2021 but was unsuccessful in doing so and had to back down.

He admitted he has a desire to be playing on the biggest stage and winning trophies, and at Tottenham he has been unable to win any major team silverware.

Son is another player who is hugely admired around Europe, although the South Korea attacker is not as hotly linked with a move away. He also has one extra year on his deal, which ends in 2025. Nevertheless, if he comes on the market in the summer, he is a player who would attract teams of the very highest standing.

Until Conte’s contract situation is definitively resolved, Man Utd and Bayern will be very attentive o what is going on at Tottenham.
