James Maddison has been in fine form so far this season in what has been a tough start to the campaign for Leicester City, and he added to it with his performance against Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder scored twice in Leicester’s win over the newly-promoted side as the Foxes won 4-0 and one of Maddison’s goals was a stunning free-kick.

There was surprise over Maddison not being picked for England’s recent Nations League squads and his form in 2022 has led to calls for him to be taken to Qatar for the World Cup this winter.

In the meantime, clubs are taking note of his performances and wish to capitalize, with Liverpool keen on him and they could have some hope if they make a move in the near future.

Liverpool may have a chance

Maddison has been of interest to several clubs in the past with many in the Premier League looking to prize him away from Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Newcastle were very keen on him in the summer transfer window and wanted to bring him in to their team, but they were priced out of a move as they were unwilling to meet Leicester’s demands for the player.

Tottenham are another club that were interested in Maddison in the summer but prioritized other positions before choosing to fork out a big fee on the Englishman.

Liverpool may now look into making a move for him, and given the lack of depth in their midfield area, this may be an option to consider, given that he already has a good Premier League reputation.

His attacking style and his age fit the right profile for a potential Liverpool signing as well, and they may be given hope by his previous comments.

Maddison comes from a family of Liverpool supporters, something he has admitted in the past, and his family share a connection with the club in that regard.

Last season, after Leicester lost a League Cup game at Anfield, Maddison was also an admirer of the atmosphere there: "Cruel end to a great game at the stadium with the best atmosphere in England. Tough one to take!"

A move for him hasn’t been made yet, but if Liverpool do decide to go for the player, they may have an advantage over the others in that scenario.
