Chelsea are hoping to sign Declan Rice, and he remains their top midfield target for the summer transfer window next year, according to reports.

The new ownership group, headed by Todd Boehly, invested heavily in the summer, spending the most of any club in Europe as the Blues made nine signings in all.

They still want to give new manager Graham Potter the best chance of success in the coming years and are willing to invest even more in future transfer windows.

The Blues want to be successful on the pitch and would be willing to spend even more, with Rice on the top of their priority list for the future.

Rice still Chelsea's top target

According to 90min, the England international is hugely admired by Todd Boehly, and it was one of his first priorities to talk to West Ham United about a possible deal when he took over at the club.

Rice used to play for Chelsea as a youngster but was let go, finding his way at West Ham since and becoming a Premier League star, even earning a place on the English national team.

Boehly wants to bring over some of the world’s best young players over to Stamford Bridge, as evident by the signing of Wesley Fofana from Leicester City over the summer transfer window.

They have also targeted the RB Leipzig duo of Josko Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku in recent times, and are considering making a move in the hope of landing them in 2023.

Rice fits that mold of player that Chelsea want to sign, having made a big impact and he is still very young, with the player being just 23-years-old.

West Ham are not going to be pushovers in this transfer – they demanded a fee of around £120 million in the summer and will want something similar when Chelsea do chase him.
