When does the 2024 January transfer window open and close?

The 2023 summer transfer window has only just slammed shut, but clubs across world football will already be looking ahead to the January window to conduct more business in the transfer market.

With players on expiring contracts able to negotiate Bosman transfers with European sides from January 1, clubs will need to start preparing for exits in the coming months.

Furthermore, with injuries hitting multiple clubs so far this season and players such as Ivan Toney likely to be on the market, the January window is set to be as chaotic as this summer.

Last January, Chelsea led the way in regards to spending, with the Blues splashing €318.5 million on permanent signings, while Joao Felix joined on a six-month loan deal for €11m.

Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk were the high-profile additions at Stamford Bridge, while Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana also joined the club.

The 2022-23 winter transfer window in also saw Liverpool move to sign Cody Gakpo from under the noses of Manchester United, and the Red Devils themselves sign Wout Weghorst on loan.

Furthermore, Cristiano Ronaldo completed a move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr following his release from Man Utd in November.

European sides can also start negotiating with players who will be free agents in the summer of 2024, with some big names able to agree moves from January.

Premier League clubs, however, cannot approach other English top flight players until the final month of their deals, meaning some players could be snapped up by teams in Europe.

Kylian Mbappe is the biggest name whose contract is due to expire in 2024. The France international has informed Paris Saint-Germain that he will not sign an extension, opening the door for a free transfer move to Real Madrid.

Alejandro Balde, Adrien Rabiot, Nico Williams and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are among several other top stars who are also set to become free agents next summer, if they don't sign a contract extension.

The Premier League winter transfer window will open on Monday, 1 January 2024.

La Liga

The La Liga winter transfer window will open on Tuesday, 2 January 2024.

Serie A

The Serie A winter transfer window will open on Tuesday, 2 January 2024.

Bundesliga

The Bundesliga winter transfer window is expected to open on Monday, 1 January 2024.

Ligue 1

The Ligue 1 winter transfer window will open on Monday, 1 January 2024.

When does the transfer window close?

Premier League

England's Premier League winter transfer window will close on Thursday, 1 February at 11pm GMT.

La Liga

Spain's La Liga winter transfer window will close on Wednesday, 31 January at 11pm GMT.

Serie A

Italy's Serie A winter transfer window will closes on Wednesday, 31 January at 7pm GMT.

Bundesliga

Germany's Bundesliga winter transfer window is expected to close on 1 February at 5pm GMT.

Ligue 1

France's Ligue 1 winter transfer window will close on 31 January. The exact time is currently unknown.
