David de Gea has responded to Dean Henderson’s comments about Manchester United’s number one position, saying he’s going to continue doing what he does.

The English goalkeeper is on loan at Nottingham Forest this season and spoke about the last year in an interview earlier in this campaign.

He said he was frustrated by his treatment at Manchester United, and that he was promised more game time in the 2021-22 season but that was never delivered to him.

Henderson has had a fine start to life at the City Ground, making two penalty saves and putting in good displays for Forest as they look to stay in the Premier League.

De Gea responds to Henderson comments

In his interview, Henderson said: "The conversation I had with United after the Euros was that I was going back to Old Trafford to be number one. I got COVID and when I came back I should have still been number one.

"But nobody followed through with what they told me. It was frustrating as well because I turned down so many good loans last summer.

“It's criminal at my age, I wasted twelve months. I was fuming. I worked hard off the pitch and on the training pitch to keep myself improving day in and day out. I'm now looking forward to a good season with Forest."

De Gea has now responded to it, saying he will continue to get better and that he is only looking forward to the future, choosing to focus on that rather than dwell on the past.

"I have to do my job, to try to be better every day," De Gea told Manchester Evening News, after a tough start to this campaign for himself.

"I don’t think it’s the time to talk about our team and what happened last season, we should be more focused on the season now. I have no comments about that."

There were calls for De Gea to be dropped following Manchester United’s poor start to the season, but what happens over the course of this campaign for both him and Henderson remains to be seen.
