Real Madrid's transfer window will likely be dominated by names like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

However, Los Blancos are looking to improve in a number of areas including right-back.

According to the Mirror, that has led to interest being generated in Chelsea's Reece James, who has emerged as one of the best wing-backs/right-backs in the Premier League.

Over the course of the 2021/22 season, James has been scouted nine times by Real Madrid.

On two of these occasions, James actually played against Real Madrid in two legs of the Champions League quarter-final which the Spanish giants would go on to win at the expense of Chelsea.

At the moment, Madrid currently have Dani Carvajal as their first choice right-back, while Alvaro Odriozola is on loan at Fiorentina.

When Carvajal is not fit, it is converted winger Lucas Vazquez who is forced to play in defence.

Madrid and head coach Carlo Ancelotti believe that James would act as a long-term replacement for Carvajal, who turns 31 next year.

James made his debut for Chelsea in September of 2019 after featuring for the club through the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge from the age of six.

Under Frank Lampard, who was forced to embrace youth at the club due to a transfer ban, the England international developed into a key player and has held that status with Thomas Tuchel in charge.

Injuries have limited James to just 15 Premier League starts in the current campaign, but his performances both in defence and attack have been impressive.

He holds a major influence over action in the final third and has a hugely impressive six goals and seven assists to his name in all competitions in 2021/22.
