Liverpool and Man Utd legends clash over Kane's push for Spurs exit

Manchester United and Liverpool legends Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher have come to blows over Harry Kane’s reported behaviour at Tottenham Hotspur.

On Monday afternoon Sky Sports reported that the England striker had not shown up for his first day of preseason training.

Rather than his absence being due to mere tardiness, the English broadcaster suggested that Kane was now applying pressure to the club in his demands to move in the summer window.

Prior to Euro 2020, the Premier League goalscorer had reportedly told Spurs of his intention to leave the club this summer, with Manchester City and Man Utd both heavily linked with the striker.

However, while we await confirmation of Kane’s absence from the London club, Ferdinand and Carragher debated whether the striker’s bold action was a smart decision.

'Kane wants to win trophies and isn't getting younger'

In a remark over the manner in which the English media had responded to Kane’s apparent act of disobedience, Ferdinand drew a conclusion with Man Utd midfielder Paul Pogba.

“Let Paul Pogba not turn up for Man Utd training and see how the English media and fans go mad!” tweeted the former Man Utd and England defender. “Helicopters and police forces out searching his location immediately.”

However, Ferdinand then added to his initial tweet by suggesting that Kane’s apparent action may actually be justified.

“And I’m not saying that Harry Kane and his tactics to leave are wrong (if we are to believe what’s being said),” noted the pundit. “Harry wants trophies and he ain’t getting any younger.”

While both of Ferdinand’s points would have likely chimed with a number of fans watching the news unfold, Carragher took issue with the former Man Utd star's remarks and seemed to entirely disagree.

“I disagree, it is wrong not to turn up for training,” said the former Liverpool defender. “We all know he wants to go and can totally understand why.

“But Harry should not ruin his name or relationship with the supporters who idolise him just to get the move. Spurs will always be HIS club.”
