Middlesbrough left flabbergasted after one of the strangest ever kit mishaps

Middlesbrough are considering making a complaint to the EFL after their away kit bizarrely changed colour from white to green during their away Championship fixture against Burnley.

Boro travelled to Turf Moor last Wednesday and took the lead through Aidan Morris in the 23rd minute before Ugo Raghouber equalised for the home side in the second half. No other goals were scored and the points were shared as the game ended at 1-1.

When Morris scored and celebrated, close-up shots showed his pristine white kit. However, later on in the game it became clearer that Morris' kit, and the kits of his team-mates, were turning a shade of green.

It turns out the Turf Moor pitch is to blame, reports the Daily Mail.

The mystery was eventually traced to a chemical applied by the Lancashire club to tackle a nematode, or roundworm, issue affecting the pitch. The treatment contained a pigment that caused the visiting side’s distinctive all-white away kit to become stained green.

Efforts to remove the discolouration by the Boro kitmen proved unsuccessful after the visitors returned home, with even an industrial-strength stain remover unable to restore the white finish.

Astonished Middlesbrough officials subsequently reported the matter to the EFL and are now believed to be considering seeking compensation.

An insider said: “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Unfortunately for Derby County, they travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley this week and they will likely be wearing their traditional white kit.
