The first fixtures of the new Serie A season took place over the weekend and it was a disappointing start for Milan as they lost 2-1 against newly-promoted Cremonese thanks to a magical bicyle kick from Federico Bonazzoli.

Milan trailed their opponents for over 30 minutes in the second period, but head coach Massimiliano Allegri opted against bringing Musah into the action.

The 22-year-old faces an uncertain future should he remain at San Siro as from week to week he has been linked with a different club, while other reports suggest Allegri wants to keep him.

The latest club to show an interest is Atalanta, who could target Musah as a replacement for Marco Brescianini, who is on the radar of Napoli.

The transfer merry-go-round of Italian football.

Napoli were previously linked with Musah but baulked at Milan's $35 million asking price. Crucially, the player needs to move to a team that can guarantee him first-team football ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, where he is set to be a key figure for his country.

Calciomercato reports that Milan have already started looking for a replacement and could target Bologna's Giovanni Fabbian who might be available for between $24m and $29m.

There is a possibility that Musah could move to Milan, Brescianini could move to Napoli and Fabbian could move to Milan all before the transfer deadline next week.

The United States international has also been linked with Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
