The Chelsea loanee has scored seven goals in just eight Roma appearances, with five in the Italian top flight and two in the Europa League.

His goals have helped Roma to three successive wins and five victories in their last seven games in all competitions.

Lukaku, 30, spent time under Mourinho’s tutelage at Manchester United and the pair’s reunion has played a key role in the Belgian’s start to life at Roma.

Following the 4-1 win over Cagliari on Sunday, Lukaku told the press, via Tuttomercatoweb: “I prove on the pitch what I can give to a team. Today things went well.

“As I’ve said in the past, he [Mourinho] and I have a special relationship. He knows me and my children. He’s someone I can trust, and he puts his trust in me. He’s tough, but that’s the only way that I can grow.”

Is Lukaku’s Chelsea career over?

This is the second consecutive season in which Lukaku has left Chelsea on loan for Italy. His contract with the Blues is set to expire in 2026, and it is highly likely that the west London club will seek to offload him permanently next summer.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal for €37m during the summer window, while Armando Broja is now back to full fitness and scored his first Premier League goal of the season in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fulham last Monday.
