If Manchester United are after midfield reinforcements in the summer, star man Bruno Fernandes has hinted that they should be looking at Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski.

Zielinski has recorded an impressive 11 assists with Napoli in Serie A this season, as well as eight goals, despite playing in a deeper role than Fernandes operates in.

The pair were team-mates at Udinese, and Fernandes, who is now the main man at Man Utd, would be delighted to reunite with the Poland international star in the future.

Zielinski is better trained the me – Fernandes

“Technically, I can say that Zielinski is better trained than I am,” Fernandes told Poland’s Canal+.

“We had a good challenge. I think in the past, Zielinski was actually a bit shy. He was really young then, just like me, at that time.

“However, we came from different countries, different mentality, and it was different for both of us. I have a really good relationship with Piotr.

“He’s a top guy, I like him a lot. He is one of the people I met in Italy with whom I am in touch all the time.

“I spoke to him a few months ago and told him that I would like to play with him again.

“So, who knows what the future has waiting for us. For me, he is a really, really top player.”

Man Utd have been urged in certain quarters to add to their midfield options, although that may depend on Paul Pogba’s future. The France international is out of contract in 2022 and has sent mixed messages over his plans, although he has appeared more settled in recent times.

Indeed, it looks likelier that Man Utd will pursue an option on the right wing, probably Jadon Sancho, and a centre-back before any possible move for Zielinski, whose contract at Napoli is not up until 2024.
