After two seasons of very little football at Juventus, Sami Khedira is set to leave the club in January, according to Bild.

The recent part of the German’s career in Turin has been ravaged by injury, but accompanying that has also been a lack of form, while Maurizio Sarri and now Andrea Pirlo don’t rate him highly enough to feature regularly in the first team.

  • Since the beginning of the 2018 campaign, Khedira has started just 17 Serie A matches.

Most alarmingly for the former Real Madrid man, however, is that he has failed to register a single minute of Serie A action under Pirlo in 2020/21.

Reports from Germany indicate he is finally ready to move on to pastures new.

    But, where to?

    The Bundesliga

Juventus have a tendency to acquire a large number of free agents on massive salaries, which makes them rather difficult to eventually move on before their contracts expire.

Blaise Matuidi, Aaron Ramsey, and Adrien Rabiot, as well as Khedira, are just four examples of players who might not necessarily have played or will play every week, yet who are on significant money.

Therefore, if Khedira is to return to the Bundesliga, for example, in a romantic return to former club Stuttgart, he will need to accept a sizeable decrease in wages from what he is currently on with Juventus.

Should he indicate that he’d be willing to accept lesser terms, then there won’t be a shortage of suitors in Germany looking to take on a veteran World Cup winner, even if his recent injury record is slightly alarming.

    Turkish Super Lig

There is no denying the fact that many former stars in their advancing years make their way to the top flight in Turkey.

Radamel Falcao is probably the most famous star plying his trade in the Super Lig at the moment, playing for Galatasaray.

Anyone from Galatasary, Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Basaksehir, Alanyaspor – you got see any of these teams taking a punt on Khedira.

    MLS

This may prove to be a last resort for Khedira, as although Bild indicates he is not currently interested in a move to Major League Soccer, it may present the best opportunity for him to claim some higher wages compared to some of the teams in Europe who would be interested.
