Rangers are set to take control of the race to sign Jens Hjerto Dahl from Tromso, with the midfielder said to be targeting a move to Ibrox.

Derek McInnes’ side have made strong progress in the transfer window so far this summer, signing six players already as they seek to mount a challenge for the Premiership title under their new boss.

The Gers increasingly appear to be bracing themselves for the departure of Nicolas Raskin, who they hope to fetch a price of around £20 million (€23.5m).

There has been building Premier League interest in the Belgium international following his strong World Cup performance, and Rangers are now seeking to cash in by recouping a huge transfer fee, which will in turn be reinvested into more new arrivals.

It had appeared that Dahl would slip from their grasp, with Championship side Cardiff City having closed in on a deal for the 20-year-old.

The Daily Record had announced a move to Glasgow was on the ‘brink of collapse’, but the latest indications are this could not be further from the truth.

McInnes talks Dahl into Rangers move

Transfer insider Sam Cohen reports that Rangers are closing in on a club-to-club agreement with Tromso over Dahl, while the rising star has set his sights on a move to join the Glasgow giants.

He states: “The Norwegian U21 star has agreed personal terms after making it clear Ibrox is his preferred destination, believing he can thrive under the manager.

“McInnes has fully convinced the player of the project. Dahl has also turned down personal terms from both Celtic and Cardiff, despite both offers being more enticing, financially.

“Rangers have seen two bids rejected but are now closing in on Tromsø's valuation after significant progress in talks over the last 24 hours. Club-to-club negotiations continue, with

“Rangers also pushing through outgoings to free up the funds for a deal worth around €7.8m guaranteed, plus add-ons.”

Given Dahl has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €9.1m, this looks like strong value for Rangers.

Tromso firm on Dahl stance

Tromso have played down speculation that Dahl is on the brink of a move, with manager Jorgen Vik claiming he is planning with the midfielder ahead of next week’s Europa League tie against Hradec Kralove.

“Despite a lot of speculation, we have retained the duo Tobias Guddal and Jens Hjerto-Dahl,” he says.

“The duo will probably be in action when TIL starts qualifying for the Europa League on Thursday.”

Should Dahl play on Thursday, he would not be able to feature for Rangers in the qualifying rounds of same competition but could be registered for the group stage.
