Celtic reach full agreement to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Celtic have reached a full agreement to sign former England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 32-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Turkish Super Lig outfit Besiktas in August and he has been training with former club Arsenal in recent months.
Rumours of a Bosman move to Celtic have picked up in recent days and Martin O’Neill’s side have now agreed a deal to bring Oxlade-Chamberlain to Glasgow, as first reported by Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.
The imminent transfer has now been confirmed by the aforementioned Romano, who posted on X: “Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Celtic, here we go! Verbal agreement in place for the midfielder.
“He’s in Glasgow today for new chapter on six month deal plus option to extend.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has 35 caps and seven goals for England, has won 13 trophies during an illustrious career, including the Champions League with Liverpool, and he will bolster the midfield options available to Celtic for the remainder of the campaign.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to join Celtic
Speaking to Sky Sports Scotland earlier this week, O’Neill was asked about the possibility of signing Oxlade-Chamberlain and whether he would like to bring the former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder to Celtic Park.
“I do, I genuinely do [like him]," O'Neill confessed when quizzed about the ex-England international. “He's trained at Arsenal for some time since his time in Turkey. I spoke to him, but I'm sure he will have lots of options, maybe closer to London as well. He was very affable, I must admit.
“I would be very interested in doing it, but as I said to you, I'm surprised that people haven't taken him up closer to the area. He's telling me that he's training with Arsenal for quite some considerable time, so in terms of fitness, it's not match fitness, but it's fine.
“We'll see, he's got loads of options," O'Neill added. "I think he was very excited about what we were saying. Listen, he knows about the football club. He's a big friend of Joe Hart.
“Joe's spoken to him, not on our behalf, that was just a conversation he had with Joe. Listen, it's fine. It's something that would be interesting, but if it doesn't materialise, it doesn't materialise.”
