Rangers stunned as Chelsea target deal for Rangers wonderkid
Chelsea are reportedly eager to finalise a deal to sign Rangers wonderkid Ashton Scally amid their continued pursuit of the best young talents in the United Kingdom
The 15-year-old left-back is regarded as one of the brightest youth prospects at Ibrox, however Liam Rosenior’s side are aiming to reach an agreement to bring him to Stamford Bridge in 2026.
Scally, who is currently a Scotland U16 international, is understandably yet to make his first-team debut for Rangers, but Danny Rohl recently admitted his frustration that he was unable to include the teenager in the matchday squad to face Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup in mid-January.
SFA rules stipulate that players must be at least 16 years old to feature in the first-team, meaning Scally and fellow youngster Kyle Glasgow were unavailable for selection.
Speaking after the game, Rohl told Rangers TV (via The Scottish Sun): “It’s always important for us as a club and the academy [to give young players game time].
“It was a shame that we weren’t allowed to take Kyle and Ashton as well. Players should have this opportunity to play but these are the rules. They are players with high potential, we really like them.
“Hopefully when they are the right age they can help us as well.”
However, Scally could be set to leave Rangers before he is eligible to make his senior debut, with Chelsea pushing to sign him, according to a report from TEAMtalk.
Chelsea’s January transfer activity
Chelsea have been relatively inactive during the first few weeks of the January transfer window, with Sheffield Wednesday defender Yisa Alao their only signing so far this month.
However, Raheem Sterling’s contract has been mutually terminated after he was frozen out by the club’s hierarchy, while Tyrique George and Axel Disasi are also set to leave the west London giants before the end of Transfer Deadline Day.
David Datro Fofana is expected to depart on a permanent deal too, with Chelsea hoping to sell him for a profit after recalling him from a promising loan spell at Fatih Karagumruk earlier this month.
