Rangers legend Barry Ferguson reckons his old club can still win the Scottish Premiership this season despite a dismal start, but knows he'll be labelled as "crazy" for suggesting so.

Current manager Russell Martin is under huge pressure currently with his tenure seemingly hanging on a game-by-game basis.

The Glasgow giants have won just one out of their opening six Premiership matches and that came last weekend versus Livingston.

They are nine points adrift of league leaders Hearts and seven adrift of Celtic

In the Europa League, Rangers are 32nd out of 36 teams in the League Phase following a 2-1 defeat by Sturm Graz on Thursday.

Ferguson, who took charge of the club for a period last season, insists Rangers can go on a run to challenge for the title.

"I have to admit, as a supporter, I really don’t care about Europe," he told the Daily Record.

"The priority for me now has to be the league and climbing back up that Premiership table.

"And people might think I’m crazy because of the league position, but there’s still an opportunity for Rangers to challenge.

"That’s why it’s so important they put a run of wins together, starting with Falkirk on Sunday, when they have to get three points.

"Celtic aren’t firing on all cylinders. I know Hearts are flying high, but there are still 32 games to play.

"Domestically, there’s still so much to play for. I genuinely don’t think there’s a better time for Rangers to go and fight for a title.

"But obviously, to do that, they need to start winning every week in the league."

Rangers are away to Falkirk on Sunday, with Celtic hosting Motherwell and Hearts facing Hibernian in the Edinburgh derby.
