PSG pay Kylian Mbappe €40m loyalty bonus as contract deadline passes

The future of Kylian Mbappe could become clearer with Paris Saint-Germain set to pay half of the forward’s loyalty bonus following the French side’s failure to sell him before the July 31st deadline.
PSG are looking to sell Mbappe this summer after he turned down the option to extend his contract for another season, with the 24-year-old also having to formally announce any intention to do so by the end of July.
Mbappe's deal is now confirmed to expire in 2024 and he is expected to join Real Madrid next summer, with PSG believing a pre-agreement is already in place between the player and the La Liga outfit, prompting a potential complaint to be filed with FIFA.

Despite an eyewatering proposal from Al-Hilal which would have seen PSG net €300 million and Mbappe offered a contract worth €700m a year, the French captain refused to hold talks with the Saudi side and has insisted he will see out his contract in Paris.
Mbappe has no intention of leaving PSG and he will now receive a €40m payment as half of the loyalty bonus for the extension he signed last summer, with the second portion reportedly due on September 1st.
PSG are reportedly prepared to stagger the payments across the course of the season as the club deal with the potential consequences of a major loss on the books for a player who they paid €180m for in 2018.
Mbappe risks further PSG fury after deadline passes
The deadline of July 31st was in place for Mbappe to confirm whether he would be taking up the option of a third year with PSG, having signed a two-plus-one deal last year after rejecting Real Madrid.
However, despite tentative interest from the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Barcelona, PSG were unable to sell Mbappe prior to the deadline, which means the forward is set to bank a significant loyalty bonus.
EXPECTATIONS: PSG ready for 'extremely low' offer for Mbappe
PSG were hoping to have Mbappe’s future resolved before the deadline but they will now spend €40m of their Financial Fair Play budget on the bonus, further limiting the moves they can make to replace their talisman when he eventually does leave.
Manager Luis Enrique is still keen for a resolution with Mbappe and the club are hopeful there will be another extension signed, similar to the u-turn performed last summer, although optimism is fading.
