Lamine Yamal is set to become the highest-paid player at Barcelona when he turns 18 years old, according to a bombshell report in Spain.

The teenage wonderkid currently earns an annual salary of around €3 million, although this is reportedly set to jump to over €40m when he signs a new contract after his 18th birthday in July.

Yamal’s current contract at Camp Nou is due to expire in 2026, but he is expected to sign a new long-term deal with the Blaugrana this summer and he is set to become the highest earner at the club in the process.

That is according to Spanish publication El Nacional, who claim that several experienced members of the Barcelona dressing room are angered by news that Yamal will jump to the top of the salary standings.

A number of older players at Camp Nou reportedly believe that Yamal has been overvalued before he has fully established himself and they feel as though the “hierarchical balance is being disrupted.”

However, El Nacional state that other stars accept Yamal is an indispensable part of Barcelona’s future and deserves to be rewarded with a mega salary boost this summer.

Lamine Yamal to sign new Barcelona contract

Despite rumours of a civil war in the Barcelona dressing room, the Spanish giants are in contention to win the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League treble after a stunning first campaign under Hansi Flick.

Yamal has played a key role in the club’s immense form this season, registering 15 goals and 21 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions so far this term.

The Spain international is even among the favourites to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or, with team-mate Raphinha widely considered to be his greatest competitor for the award.

Yamal currently boasts the second-highest Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of any player in world football - behind only Manchester City forward Erling Haaland - and he is likely to usurp the Norway superstar when he officially signs a new long-term deal at Barcelona.
