The 25-year-old took to his social media accounts to share an almost four-minute video announcing his decision to leave and thanking the fans, his coaches and teammates at PSG.

Mbappe, born in the Parisian suburb of Bondy, joined the capital club from Monaco in 2017 on an initial loan. His signing was made permanent for an eye-watering €180 million the following year. To date, he has notched a stunning 255 goals and 108 assists in 306 competitive fixtures for PSG.

Mbappe to Real Madrid a matter of time

Mbappe now looks set to fulfil his childhood dream of heading to Real Madrid. The Frenchman has been free to negotiate with Los Blancos since January and it is one of the game's worst-kept secrets that he is jetting off for the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

The devastating attacker already had the chance to join Real Madrid two years ago, but a sensational 11th-hour U-turn saw him extend his PSG deal. It is thought that Los Blancos offered him similar terms this year as in 2022.

Mbappe has reportedly agreed to take a significant pay cut to join the Champions League finalists, who were not prepared to break their wage structure to sign the PSG star. Nevertheless, his switch - despite a lack of transfer fee - is expected to be one of the most lucrative in football history, with Real Madrid set to pay the player and his camp an astronomical signing fee.
