Lionel Messi is still keen to return to Barcelona and say his proper goodbyes, according to Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas.

The Argentine left Catalunya in 2021 as the Blaugrana, mired in financial troubles, were unable to still pay his hefty salary. Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain, but that was never a happy marriage. Indeed, former teammate Neymar recently claimed that the two 'went through hell' in Paris.

Messi himself took a dig at the Ligue 1 side by asserting that he was the only player on Argentina's World Cup-winning squad who received no recognition from their club because they had beaten France in the final. It is clear that Messi has no love for PSG, but the same can't be said for Barcelona.

In fact, by all accounts, the Argentine would have loved to have returned as a free agent in the summer, but the club's still-dire economic situation made a deal impossible. He joined Inter Miami instead where he has started like a house on fire, but he is still not over the fact that he didn't get to leave the Blaugrana on his terms.

What did Jorge Mas say?

Speaking to El Club del Deportista, Inter co-owner Jorge Mas recently revealed that the MLS side are planning on lining up against Barcelona to give Messi a chance to say his final goodbyes.

“Messi's departure from Barcelona was not to his liking," Mas said, "he could not say goodbye to his club that welcomed him as a child, and I think the circumstances were not what Lionel wanted."

"I gave him my commitment that I will do everything possible in the coming years to give him the opportunity to say goodbye to his fans in Barcelona. Inter Miami will go or we will do some kind of match.”
