Luka Modric has made the decision to stay with Real Madrid amid interest from Saudi Arabia, according to Fabrizio Romano.

A lot has been made about the experienced midfielder's future at the Santiago Bernabeu. The former Ballon d'Or winner is out of contract in the summer, and at 37, the twilight of his career appears to be approaching.

Nevertheless, Modric has featured prominently for Real Madrid this season, making an impressive 51 appearances and chipping in with six goals and six assists. With Real Madrid failing to attain Champions League and LaLiga honours this term, there were suggestions that a rebuild could be on the cards as Modric and fellow veterans Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Nacho Fernandez are all on expiring deals.

While Fernandez and Benzema could yet leave, with the latter having received a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, a full rebuild seems to be on hold for now.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid want to extend with Kroos and Modric despite the all-but-confirmed arrival of Jude Bellingham.

What did Romano say?

While Romano has claimed for some time that Kroos has already consented to a new deal, the Los Blancos future of Modric was thrown into doubt somewhat due to reports that he has now received a huge offer to join former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League.

The Croatian has, however, already made up his mind. "From what I'm told," the transfer expert said, "Luka Modric is not negotiating with any Saudi club and his decision is very clear: he will stay at Real Madrid."

"He only wants to play for Real Madrid. He will sign a new contract until June 2024, so [for] one more season. The agreement was already there at the end of April and now we can say that Modric is very clear: no intention to move to Saudi [Arabia]."
