This is a problem for Barcelona as it means they may have to sell off several starting players from their squad to help in this matter.

Barcelona have financial issues

Joan Laporta took a few risks last year with the activation of a few levers that gave the club an injection of cash enabling them to make a few signings.

They ended up signing the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde and Raphinha in a major outlay of cash to significantly improve the squad.

Barcelona will now have to look at raising income through the sale of players and by reducing salaries, and some key names may have to depart the club.

Frenkie de Jong’s future at the club is still unclear as Manchester United are interested in the player and a big offer may tempt the club to sell after they had negotiations for the Dutchman last year.

Additionally, Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto are in the final months of their contract and could well depart the club in the summer transfer window in what would help the club’s financial state.

Other than that, there is also Hector Bellerin and it’s widely expected that he will depart the club after just one season – he only joined in the summer after his contract at Arsenal was terminated.
