All over Europe there are a host of big-name stars who are set to be available on a free transfer, including the likes of PSG’s Lionel Messi, Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

But one team who are affected more than anyone is Barcelona.

What Barcelona players see their contracts expire in 2023?

The biggest star set to be a free agent is Sergio Busquets and it’s very unlikely that he will be penning an extension. It has been widely reported that the 34-year-old already has a deal with Inter Miami, and will move to Major League Soccer in June.

Memphis Depay will also certainly leave Barcelona in 2023. His contract expires at the end of June and he will leave to find regular football, having barely played during his two years at Barca. There is a chance he could leave in January for a small fee, with Atletico Madrid the favourites.

Hector Bellerin will also depart. He returned to Barcelona on a one-year contract as a free transfer last summer but has failed to make the grade and will be released.

Marcos Alonso also arrived on a free transfer from Chelsea on a one-year deal. There are more chances for Alonso to stay at Barca but as it stands he is set to depart also.

Sergi Roberto signed an extension until 2023 at the end of last season but it appears unlikely he will be penning another one. Barcelona have made a new right-back their priority in 2023.

Finally, backup goalkeepers Inaki Pena and Arnau Tenas see their contracts expire at the end of June.
