Sergio Busquets has confirmed his intention to play for Inter Miami, although he has stressed that a transfer in 2023 is not a done deal yet.

Busquets’ contract at Barcelona expires at the end of the campaign and it is very unlikely that he will be penning an extension.

It has been widely reported that the 34-year-old already has a deal with Inter Miami, and will move to Major League Soccer next June.

Busquets says that a free transfer move is not already agreed but does admit that he wants to play in the MLS for Miami.

What did Busquets say?

"I know it's the last year [of my contract], but I have always said that I have nothing signed with anyone," Busquets told Cadena Ser. "I would like to have some certainty by February.

"I have always said I would like to play in the United States, above all in Miami, but from there I have not reached any agreement with any club - in the US or in any other league. Barcelona will be the first to know. When I have made a decision, I will tell them."

Busquets, who is currently at the World Cup with Spain in Qatar, will go down as one of Barcelona’s greatest midfielders after making almost 700 appearances and winning every honour in the game.

If he does join Miami, he will likely join up with his former Barcelona teammate Messi.

According to The Times and other media, Inter Miami are very close to completing the signing of Messi.

The MLS side, co-owned by David Beckham, are reported to be in the final stages of completing a deal for the Argentine legend.

Messi would also join Inter Miami when his contract at PSG expires at the end of the season.

Busquets and Messi could even be joined by other Barcelona legends, with Cesc Fabregas and Luis Suarez also linked.
