Bids for Manchester United have fallen too low for the Glazer family to accept a sale.

The Financial Times reports that the offers by Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe are not high enough.

The two bidders will now have to up their bids to stand a chance of acquiring a stake or managing a full takeover of Man Utd, the publication claims.

As well as the pair, the Glazers have received a variety of proposals from other parties but they have not disclosed themselves and come forward publicly.

All bidders, who have agreed to non-disclosure agreements, were told to meet a soft deadline on Friday last week, and they could be granted access to the club’s financial information next week.

Man Utd hired US bank Raine Group, who helped with the sale of Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea last year, as their advisers.

The debt-free bid by Sheikh Jassim, who is the second son of former Qatar prime minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani, is around £3.7b - an amount that would, if accepted, represent a record price for a purchase of a sports club.

The Financial Times report the Glazers control the company through shares and own roughly 70 per cent of the equity. It is thought that they are in no rush to reach a decision and are likely to make a decision by the summer.

Glazer family split

Joel and Avram Glazer, the executive co-chairmen, are reluctant to sell the club, reports The Athletic.

But they face the issue of not being able to personally buy out Kevin, Bryan, Edward and Darcie Glazer.

These four members of the family no longer want the hassle of owning a club of Man United’s stature.

It is believed that Avram is even planning to attend the club’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle on Sunday.
