Fabrizio Romano: Gyokeres ‘betrayed’ as Arsenal transfer descends into CHAOS
Viktor Gyokeres' move to Arsenal has descended into chaos, and Fabrizio Romano says the player feels betrayed.
Arsenal have been in negotiations to sign Gyokeres for several weeks but have not been able to agree on a transfer fee amidst a public war between the player and his club Sporting Lisbon.
Things took a new turn for the worse on Saturday when Sporting president Frederico Varandas slammed Gyokeres' decision to not turn up to training in a bid to force a move through to Arsenal.
What did Varandas say?
"We're calm," Varandas told Agencia Lusa. "Everything can be solved with the closure of the market, a hefty fine and an apology to the group.
"If they don't want to pay Viktor’s fair market value, we'll be very comfortable with that for the next three years.
"If the geniuses who are devising this strategy think that this puts pressure on me to make it easier for him to leave, not only are they completely wrong, but they are also making it more complicated for the player to leave.
"No one is above the interests of the club. Whoever they are."
A public war has been ongoing all summer between the player’s entourage and his club over his asking price.
Gyokeres’ agents claimed that Sporting broke a promise to sell him for around €60m plus €10m in bonuses, while Sporting denied a promise was ever made.
Romano said on his latest YouTube video that Gyokeres feels "betrayed" by Sporting for breaking their promise to sell him at the above price.
The Italian journalist adds that Arsenal have even bid above the amount promised to Gyokeres, yet Sporting are still demanding more than €70m.
Romano concludes though that talks are ongoing and Arsenal are still confident of completing the deal.

Arsenal and Gyokeres have already agreed on a contract until 2030, with salary and terms all settled upon.
Gyokeres is the hottest striking property around right now after having an incredible season, scoring 54 goals in 52 games in all competitions, and leading Sporting to another league title.
This follows on from his brilliant form from last season for Sporting where he scored 43 goals in all competitions for his club.
