OFFICIAL: Man Utd announce final summer transfer
Manchester United striker Chido Obi has left the club to join Willem II on loan for the duration of the 2026-27 season.
The 18-year-old moved to Old Trafford from Arsenal in a shock transfer in 2024 and after playing eight first-team games during his debut campaign at the club, he failed to make a senior appearance last term.
Instead, Obi spent last season in Man Utd’s U21 side and he scored an impressive 15 goals in 31 appearances. After agreeing a deal with Willem II on Wednesday afternoon, Man Utd have now officially confirmed the temporary deal, admitting that an agreement was reached in order for the teenager to “gain further senior experience.”
In an official statement posted on the Willem II website, Obi said: “This is a great step in my career. I want to play as much as possible, gain experience, and develop myself further. I will work hard for the team and hope to be able to be important.”
Meanwhile, Freek Heerkens, the club’s technical director, added: “Chido is a young, talented striker who is at an important moment in his development.
“He has been able to develop in a top-level sports environment at Manchester United over the past few years and is now eager to gain experience. We can help him with that, and the Eredivisie is an excellent platform for it.
“At the same time, with Chido, our squad is bringing in a striker whose qualities can be of value to the team.”
Man Utd’s summer transfers
Obi has become Man Utd’s final transfer of the summer window, with the club also sanctioning the loan departure of Altay Bayindir to Celta Vigo.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have sold Rasmus Hojlund, Radek Vitek, Toby Collyer and Tyler Fredricson on permanent deals, with Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia all leaving upon the expiration of their contracts.
In regards to incomings, Man Utd have added Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santo, Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow to Michael Carrick’s squad as they look to cement their place as Champions League regulars this term.
