Manchester United Harry Maguire has admitted that he wants the club to be active in the transfer market during the final two weeks of the summer window.

The Red Devils have only spent €97.3 million on new signings so far this summer, and Maguire wants club officials to show ambition in the market as they prepare for just their second season in the Champions League since 2021-22.

“When you play for this club, you want competition for places and it's so important that we have a huge squad,” Maguire admitted during an interview with Sky Sports.

“I'm at an age now where they can bring in as many as they want, bring in all the best players. I want to win all the trophies and be greedy about it, but it's up to the club.

“I'm sure they're working hard out there to try and bring in the right players. The more, the merrier. The stronger squad that we have, the more opportunity we have of winning these trophies and that's what it's all about when you play for this club.

“We've got a good depth of squad, but of course, I'm sure they're working hard on helping us and bringing more in.”

Maguire, who joined Man Utd for €87m in 2019, has just one year remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford, although the club do have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months if they wish.

Who could Man Utd sign before Deadline Day?

Man Utd’s top target for the remainder of the summer transfer window is Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall, who is regarded as the perfect player to provide competition for Luke Shaw at left-back.

However, Newcastle have no interest in selling the England international and they have zero motivation to agree a deal having already lost Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon so far this summer.

Jorge Salinas (Racing Santander) and Joaquin Seys (Club Brugge) have also been linked with an Old Trafford switch, with Man Utd willing to sell academy graduate Harry Amass on a permanent deal in order to fund a deal.

In addition, the club also remain interested in signing a new central midfielder following the departure of Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte’s ACL injury and concerns over Mason Mount’s fitness record.

Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans have already arrived at the club this summer, but Man Utd are attentive to the midfield market and they have been tipped to rekindle their interest in Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba, after failing to sign him last year.
