Manchester City have reportedly agreed to meet Chelsea’s deadline for Enzo Fernandez, with a €120 million bid said to have been submitted for the midfielder.

Chelsea have told City that they want Fernandez’s future resolved by 5pm on Friday and will not allow the 25-year-old to leave if an offer of £120m (€140m) is made by then.

Following that announcement on Wednesday, Spanish reporter Cesar Luis Merlo has claimed that City have now submitted an offer to Chelsea, although it is €20m short of the €140m valuation.

The report by Tribuna.com states that City boss Enzo Maresca is pushing to finalise the signing and has asked the club to do everything possible to bring Fernandez in.

Chelsea’s response is described as ‘unknown’ but they have previously remained firm on their asking price, having communicated it to Fernandez and his suitors since May.

FootballTransfers has been told that Fernandez has already agreed personal terms with City and that he is keen on a reunion with Maresca, having grown unsettled at Chelsea after the Italian’s departure in January.

City are hoping to partially fund Fernandez’s signing through the sale of Tijjani Reijnders, who is closing in on a €61m move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah.

Having already spent €135m to sign Elliot Anderson this summer, another deal for Fernandez in a similar price range would likely also require Rodri to be sold if a fee can be agreed with Barcelona.

Rodri has been in talks with Barca since a move to Real Madrid collapsed last week but the Catalan side’s most recent offer of around €64.5m has been rejected, with City holding out for more than €70m for the 30-year-old.

A deal for Fernandez could also have implications on City's move for Ayyoub Bouaddi, with a deal for the teenager having stalled due to Lille's asking price of more than €90m.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have not suggested that they would be willing to lower their demands for Fernandez, particularly given that they paid €121m for him in 2023, and it remains to be seen how they respond to City’s offer, if it is confirmed to be true.

However, with Fernandez pushing for an exit and with personal terms agreed, a deal appears to be edging closer ahead of Chelsea’s Friday deadline, with the Blues only willing to sell if they can sign a replacement before the window closes on 1 September.
