Chelsea receive official update on Alonso's next signing

AS Monaco boss Filipe Luis has admitted that “anything can happen” before the summer transfer window closes amid Chelsea’s interest in Lamine Camara.

The Senegal international has been identified as the Blues’ preferred replacement for wantaway star Enzo Fernandez and it has been claimed that an agreement is in place for Camara to secure a Stamford Bridge switch for €45 million.

This has been denied by football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, but he has confirmed that Chelsea will push to bring the 22-year-old to the club if Fernandez is sold before the end of Transfer Deadline Day on Tuesday 1 September.

The Telegraph’s Matt Law has also revealed that Chelsea are advancing in talks to bring Camara to the club, with Bournemouth reluctant to accept any offer for Alex Scott this close to the end of the window.

Camara played the entire 90 minutes during a 2-0 win over Marseille on Sunday night and, after the match, he sat alone on the Monaco bench in front of an empty Stade Louis II, according to French football journalist Luke Entwistle.

Meanwhile, when asked about the 22-year-old in his post-match press conference, Monaco manager Luis admitted: “I hope to keep him. You see the player he is - unbelievable. Until the end of the transfer window, anything can happen. Everyone hopes that he stays. He’s elite.”

Camara has been a standout performer for Monaco since his arrival from Metz in 2024 and he is expected to partner Moises Caicedo in Chelsea’s preferred midfield pivot if the Blues are able to complete a transfer before the summer window closes.

However, he is only likely to arrive if Manchester City match Chelsea’s €140m asking price for Fernandez.

What other business could Chelsea complete before the end of Deadline Day?

While Camara is likely to be the only imminent new arrival before Deadline Day, Chelsea have finalised a deal to sign Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor in 2027. He will spend the season on loan at Crystal Palace before officially moving to Stamford Bridge next summer.

Meanwhile, the club are also keen to complete several player sales, with Tosin Adarabioyo, David Datro Fofana, Robert Sanchez and the aforementioned Fernandez among those who could depart.

Furthermore, a deal has been agreed to sell Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, and Chelsea are in talks with Hull City over a loan move for Dario Essugo. Mykhailo Mudryk is also expected to leave on a temporary deal before the window closes.
