Official: Chelsea announce 13th summer signing
Chelsea have officially announced the signing of Hearts defender Alfie Osborne for an undisclosed transfer fee.
The Scotland U19 international won Hearts’ B team Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards last season and he arrives with a burgeoning reputation as one of Scotland’s most exciting young talents.
The 18-year-old moved from central midfield to centre-back last season and he captained Hearts’ U18s to Scottish FA Youth Cup glory for the first time in 26 years after a 4-0 win over Queen’s Park in the final.
Reports in Scotland suggest that Chelsea have agreed to pay a compensation fee just shy of €500,000 for the 18-year-old defender.
Osborne is set to link up with Chelsea’s newly-rebranded ‘Cobham Next Gen’ youth side this season, with the teenager expected to be one of three centre-back options alongside Dante Waite and Olutayo Subuloye, who impressed Xabi Alonso during the Blues’ pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.
Who else will Chelsea sign before Deadline Day?
It’s entirely possible that Chelsea have already concluded their incoming transfer business for the 2026 summer window.
They have spent €408 million on new signings so far this summer, including the high-profile arrival of Morgan Rogers, and their focus has completely shifted to finalising player exits in order to drastically trim down the number of first-team stars at Alonso’s disposal.

The likes of Nicolas Jackson, Liam Delap, David Datro Fofana and Marc Guiu are all expected to be sold shortly, while Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile are both on the verge of initial loan moves away from Stamford Bridge.
However, if Enzo Fernandez is sold to Manchester City before Transfer Deadline Day, amid significant interest from Enzo Maresca’s side, then Chelsea will likely dip back into the market in order to secure the signing of a suitable replacement.
It’s understood that Bournemouth star Alex Scott would be the Blues’ preferred signing in that scenario, although they have also been tipped to pursue a surprise move for Martin Zubimendi, who has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal following the summer arrival of Bruno Guimaraes.
