Aston Villa have reached an agreement with PSG to sign Liverpool target Ibrahim Mbaye.

The 18-year-old is on his way to the Premier League after all - but he isn't heading to Merseyside. Liverpool explored a deal for the right-winger in their search for a Mohamed Salah replacement, but PSG's asking price scared them off.

The French giants have changed their price tag all summer depending on the suitors. Liverpool were quoted a fee of €70 million, and while there was a belief that this could be negotiated down, the Reds ultimately did not want to waste their team haggling over a deal.

They instead focused all their energy on striking an agreement to sign top target Bradley Barcola, and this has now allowed Villa to swoop for the teenager, who has been on their radar for some time.

Villa were already keen on Mbaye in January, but PSG refused to sell at the time. Now, with the forward keen to leave in search of regular game time, the Parisians had no choice but to accept a sale.

Villa agree Mbaye deal

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Villa have managed to agree a €55 million deal with PSG, thanks to the positive relationship between Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Nassef Sawiris.

The signing of Mbaye is in the process of being finalised, with the young winger expected to sign a long-term contract. The report also confirms that the Senegal international is a long-standing target for the Birmingham club.

At 18, Mbaye already has ample experience in elite football, having made 42 senior appearances for PSG, while also playing for his country at the Africa Cup of Nations in the winter and the World Cup this summer.

However, he struggled for minutes in the second half of last season after his AFCON return, hence the desire for a new challenge. Mbaye will feature prominently under Unai Emery, who was keen to add another winger.

Villa have been in talks with AC Milan forward Rafael Leao for a few days, but the indications are that he has chosen Galatasaray as his preferred destination, having been left unconvinced by the Birmingham club's contract offer.

The agreement with Mbaye therefore comes at a perfect time for the Villans.
