Man Utd U-turn confirmed as surprise call over Marcus Rashford future made
Marcus Rashford is set to begin the new season as part of Michael Carrick’s first team squad at Manchester United after clearing the air over his past issues.
Rashford has not played for his boyhood club since 2024, having fallen out with previous manager Ruben Amorim, and it was expected that the 28-year-old would be sold this summer.
United’s preference is still to sell Rashford and get his wages off the books but there is thought to be a lack of suitable offers for the England international, which has led to both parties looking to resolve any lingering issues.
With his representatives having held talks with club officials last month, The Guardian report that Rashford will rejoin Carrick’s first team once he returns from his duty with England at the 2026 World Cup.
Rashford, who has two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, remains one of the highest earners at the club but United are only willing to sell him permanently – something which has not been forthcoming as of yet despite interest.
There are said to be ‘no problems’ between Carrick and Rashford, with the forward set to enjoy a three-week break after the World Cup before eventually reporting to pre-season training.
Rashford ready to stay with Man Utd after Barcelona decision
Rashford has been in transfer limbo ever since Barcelona opted against taking up the €30 million buyout clause in his loan deal, seemingly denying the England star a permanent move to his dream club.
The likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa are all monitoring Rashford’s situation but they are believed to prefer a loan move only, which United are adamant that they will not consider at this time.
Rashford is thought to be reluctant to join another English club and would prefer to stay at United instead if Barcelona do not make a u-turn and return to sign him later in the summer.
United were hoping to cash in on Rashford in order to fund the pursuit of a new left winger but they may instead continue focusing their resources on more central midfielders, with Ederson set to arrive imminently from Atalanta.
