Official: Man Utd confirm Youri Tielemans signing

Manchester United have announced the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans.

The Belgium international has officially completed his surprising Old Trafford transfer. On Monday, it emerged that Tielemans had become a target for the Red Devils and that Aston Villa were powerless to stop the move.

The Birmingham club did not want to lose their star midfielder, but a release clause in his contract enabled Man Utd to quickly complete a deal without having to engage in club-to-club discussions.

Tieleman needed no convincing to join the Premier League giants and quickly agreed terms. Within 24 hours, he had completed his medical and his signing has now already been confirmed.

The 29-year-old will set Man Utd back €41 million, which is a steal in today's inflated midfielder market, even if there are question marks over his age and injury record. Tielemans will provide Man Utd with quality depth for their Champions League return.

Tielemans has become Man Utd's third signing of the summer. On Monday, the Red Devils announced the acquisition of Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos, who has joined in a deal potentially worth over €58m.

Then, earlier on Tuesday, the controversial arrival of Karl Darlow was made public. The goalkeeper will serve as Senne Lammens' backup after opting not to sign a new contract at Man Utd's hated rivals Leeds.
