Man Utd Transfer News Today: Two Ederson alternatives as surprise windfall confirmed
All the latest Man Utd transfer news in one place, including updates on Manu Kone, Joao Gomes and Alejandro Garnacho.
Ederson deal off - what next?
Fabrizio Romano announced on Friday evening that Man Utd had formally ended their pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
A €45 million financial package had been agreed for the Brazil international, but Man Utd refused to proceed with the deal after carrying out additional medical examinations amid concerns over a long-term knee problem.
Nevertheless, Man Utd remain keen to sign another midfielder in addition to Andrey Santos, who is joining from Chelsea. Neither Santos nor any of the Red Devils' current options have the same skill set as Ederson, so finding an alternative is a necessity.
Man Utd make Kone contact
One potential Plan B could be AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone, according to the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness).
The Old Trafford club made contact with the France international's representatives after their decision to pull out of the Ederson deal. Roma are open to doing a deal, but only at the right price.
The Serie A giants want at least €50m for Kone, and offers are expected this summer. Roma tried to offload him before the 30 June deadline of the previous financial year but failed to do so. Several other Italian outlets are also reporting that Man Utd want Kone.
Gomes interest revived
Man Utd have also reignited their interest in Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, as per Globo Esporte.
The Brazilian's proposed transfer to Atletico Madrid has collapsed after stalling for almost a month. The Spanish side decided to sign Sporting CP captain Morten Hjulmand instead and pulled out of the deal.
This has presented Man Utd with the opportunity to return for Gomes, who has been a target for the club since he joined Wolves in January 2023. The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for him earlier this year.
Garnacho windfall?
Man Utd could receive an unexpected windfall for Alejandro Garnacho this summer, as Chelsea are ready to sell him after just one year, Fabrizio Romano understands.
The Red Devils sold the Argentine to Chelsea for €46.2m last year and reportedly inserted a 10% sell-on clause in the deal. This could now come into effect sooner than anyone could have perhaps anticipated.
There is plenty of interest in Garnacho. Chelsea have slapped a €50m price tag on his head, which would mean that Man Utd would be due €5m should a transfer indeed materialise.
