Chelsea receive alarming update from buying club over dream €50m sale
Chelsea’s hopes of selling Alejandro Garnacho have suffered a blow after Roma met with the agents of Crysencio Summerville over a potential move from West Ham United, according to reports in Italy.
Garnacho joined the Blues from Manchester United for €46million (£40m) last September and endured a difficult first season at Stamford Bridge, scoring just one Premier League goal.
And the 22-year-old is very unlikely to get a chance to prove his worth to new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso, who has all-but confirmed the winger is not part of his plans ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Addressing the media for the first time since his appointment on Monday, Alonso confirmed there is interest in Garnacho, adding: “Hopefully it finishes in the best possible ways for all parties.”
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday that Garnacho has welcomed the opportunity to join Serie A side Roma, who have been strongly linked with the Argentina international.
However, Romano claims Roma would prefer to sign Garnacho on loan, whereas Chelsea are only willing to sanction a permanent sale, with their asking price depending on the buying club.
Romano understands Chelsea value Garnacho at €50m (£42.6m) for clubs outside of the Premier League, and €52m (£45m) for teams within England’s top flight.
And now according to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Roma have sat down with the representatives of West Ham forward Summerville to discuss an alternative move to Garnacho.
The same outlet understands Roma will also struggle to afford West Ham’s asking price for Summerville, however, which The Athletic believes is around €58m (£50m).
Corriere claims Roma are also running the rule over Strasbourg's €35m-rated (£29.8m) Diego Moreira as they look to back manager Gian Piero Gasperini ahead of their return to UEFA Champions League next season.
Summerville, 24, scored seven goals in 34 games for West Ham last season, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side suffering relegation to the Championship for the first time since 2011.
Moreira meanwhile found the back of the net on five occasions for Strasbourg in 2025-26, with the 21-year-old helping his side finish eighth in Ligue 1 and reach the UEFA Conference League semi-finals.
