Chelsea Transfer News Today: Romano confirms double signing deal close to completion
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Chelsea transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck.
Romano reveals Henderson progress
“This [transfer] could be a ‘here-we-go’ very, very soon,” Romano said. “Chelsea [have] wanted an experienced midfielder for some time.
“Now Chelsea are progressing [with] a deal to sign Jordan Henderson on a free. The player is ready to agree on personal terms, Brentford are discussing with Jordan Henderson on the termination of his contract [with them].
“He’s going to leave on a free, this is the expectation, and then he is expected to join Chelsea, [who are] leading the race over two more Premier League clubs.”
Welbeck close to agreement
Chelsea are also closing in on an agreement to sign Danny Welbeck from Brighton, Romano confirmed.
“Chelsea are closing in on [an] agreement with the player (Welbeck), in terms of personal terms” Romano said. “From the same agency [as Welbeck] Chelsea already signed a talented boy, [Harrison] Bettoni, who joined the club a few weeks ago.
“And Chelsea are now proceeding [with] this opportunity to get Danny Welbeck. They need to negotiate and agree [a fee] with Brighton because the player is under contract and for Brighton [he] is obviously an important player.
“But the conversation is under way.”
Badiashile close to exit
Benoit Badiashile has moved a step closer to leaving Chelsea after they opened talks with Napoli over a potential deal, according to reports in Italy.
Italian reporter Luca Cerchione claims Napoli are hoping to reach an agreement to sign Badiashile on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy next summer.
The deal is rumoured to be worth a loan fee of €3m with a buy-clause and a contract of €2.5m per year for Badiashile.
Cerchione was the first to break the news that the Blues were interested in signing Marco Palestra from Atalanta in June.
More Chelsea outgoings
Romano claims an agreement is “almost done” between all parties, though it is unknown whether Jorgensen will leave on loan or on a permanent basis.
BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella understands the Blues are looking to sell two strikers this summer, with Delap a possibility as well as newly-arrived Emmanuel Emegha.
