Real Madrid release official Michael Olise statement
Real Madrid have published an official statement on their rumoured interest in Bayern Munich superstar Michael Olise.
Los Blancos have launched an enormous transfer offensive following president Florentino Perez's re-election, confirming deals for Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate. Denzel Dumfries is expected to follow suit.
Perez is backing new manager Jose Mourinho in his quest to end the club's two-year trophy drought, but the Real Madrid supremo has yet to get his hands on a real Galactico.
Following his re-election, he placed a €150 million bid for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, but this offer was always bound to get rejected. Indeed, many believe that it was a red herring,
Reports in Spain have suggested that Perez's dream target remains France international Olise, who was initially expected to be the subject of his massive bid before he pivoted to Alvarez.
Real Madrid release Olise statement
Bayern have been unambiguous with their transfer stance that Olise is simply not for sale at any price this summer. Nevertheless, rumours have surfaced that they would consider a deal if a world-record fee of over €222m were to be put on the table.
Other reports have suggested that Bayern would be forced to sell if Olise were to push for a move to Real Madrid. This, in turn, has emboldened some to suggest that there are discussions over personal terms with the player's camp.
The rampant speculation has now prompted Real Madrid to hit back. In an official statement, the club deny any contact with the entourage of Olise and insist that they are determined to maintain their good relationship with Bayern.
"In light of the information published in various media outlets regarding an alleged interest of our club in Bayern Munich player Michael Olise, Real Madrid C. F. wishes to clarify that it has not had any direct or indirect contact with the aforementioned footballer, his representatives, or individuals in his circle," the statement read.
"Real Madrid also wishes to highlight the excellent institutional relationship it maintains with Bayern Munich, with whom it shares a long history of mutual respect, collaboration, and admiration, and regrets the dissemination of speculation that does not correspond to reality.
"Both clubs have always maintained a relationship based on trust and mutual respect, which is reflected, among other aspects, in the shared conviction that any potential interest in a player belonging to the other club must be addressed first between the entities themselves, in accordance with the principles of institutional loyalty that have historically governed the relations between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid."
These statements always need to be taken with a grain of salt, as highlighted by the club's previous announcement on Alvarez in which they boasted about their good relationship with Atletico Madrid, only to end up getting ridiculed for it by their rivals on social media.
The most interesting part of this particular statement is the lack of denial of the "alleged interest" in Olise. Real Madrid only reject having made contact with the Frenchman; they do not actually deny their interest, even if it is described as "alleged."
It may be true that there haven't been any talks over a deal for Olise, neither with the player, nor with Bayern, but that does not mean that he isn't a target for the club.
