Enzo Fernandez makes fresh transfer push as Real Madrid agree €50m July deal
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez continues to push to join Marc Cucurella at Real Madrid, who have also struck an agreement worth a potential €50 million with Bernardo Silva to join them in July.
Cucurella is Los Blancos’ first summer signing but new manager Jose Mourinho is plotting a full rebuild, with deals already in place for Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate to hook up with the Bernabeu side.
With Bernardo Silva close to completing a move to the Spanish capital from Manchester City, Enzo Fernandez is seeking to add to the new faces at the La Liga giants.
Enzo still pushing to leave Chelsea
Enzo has long expressed his discontent at Chelsea. He notably said earlier this year that he wants to live in Madrid and received a ban from the Premier League club as a consequence.
Although the World Cup winner has publicly made peace with his employers, behind the scenes, the 25-year-old continues to seek to orchestrate a transfer.
Transfer insider Ben Jacobs said: “Enzo Fernandez is keen to join Marc Cucurella at Real Madrid, and has made no secret of wanting to leave Chelsea.
“Chelsea's asking price remains £120m, as revealed last month. Club calm about the situation but will sell at the right price. Real Madrid are currently deciding on the type of midfield profile they want. Mateus Fernandes and Rodri two other names discussed.”
Real Madrid agree Bernardo compensation
Real Madrid’s move to snap up Cucurella from Chelsea shows an ability to complete transfers in a rapid style, and Enzo is certainly not the only player they have their eyes fixed on.
A deal for Bernardo Silva, who had previously been so closely linked with Barcelona, is quickly moving closer to fruition.
According to El Confidencial, Real Madrid have agreed a package worth €10 million as a signing bonus for the Portugal midfielder, while his agent Jorge Mendes will receive a similar fee.
Both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, who were hoping to sign the 31-year-old, were resistant to paying such a fee. These clubs also did not want to take on any risk should the Spanish tax authorities elect to investigate the deal. Such moves, the report states, have previously been subject to scrutiny over accusations that they simulate payment of an additional salary via the agent.
Bernardo is set to sign a two-year deal with Real Madrid worth €10m each season, with the option of an additional 12 months, taking the value of his agreement to a potential €50m when the signing bonus is added in.
Bernardo Silva delays Real Madrid deal for tax reasons
Bernardo Silva will not be announced as a Real Madrid player until July in a move that will save him millions.
The ex-Monaco and Benfica player will be taxed at a 24% rate for the tax year so long as he is not tax resident in Spain for more than 183 days. This means that Bernardo will have to sign a contract for Real Madrid effective from 3 July in order to qualify for this rate, else he will be taxed at 45%.
Having agreed a salary of €10m per year with Los Blancos, the saving will, therefore, be enormous.
