Barcelona are planning on offering Raphinha a lucrative new contract following rumoured transfer interest from Chelsea.

The Brazil superstar has established himself as one of the best players in world football since his move to Camp Nou in 2022, and he has enjoyed a sensational start to the new season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in just six games across all competitions.

Raphinha has less than two years remaining on his current contract with Hansi Flick’s side and given his status as a world-class attacker, it’s no surprise that clubs across Europe are beginning to monitor his situation.

Chelsea were close to signing Raphinha before his move from Leeds United to Barca and they remain interested in the 29-year-old, despite bolstering their first-team squad with the additions of Morgan Rogers, Geovany Quenda, Emmanuel Emegha and Danny Welbeck over the summer.

That is according to Spanish outlet El Nacional, who speculatively claim that both Chelsea and Arsenal are prepared to double Raphinha’s salary in order to lure him back to the Premier League in 2027.

However, Barcelona have no interest in selling the Brazil winger and they are instead ready to offer him a contract extension, as per AS.

This has been confirmed by Blaugrana sporting director Deco, who admitted: “He's happy here. Flick has brought out the best in him. I see him doing very well. A contract renewal? We're keeping a close eye on our players so nothing catches us off guard. We also value merit. We'll talk to him.”

Analysis: Do Chelsea even need Raphinha?

While Raphinha is unquestionably one of the best attackers in world football, there is a strong argument to suggest that Chelsea simply don’t need him.

Xabi Alonso has one of the best forward lines in the Premier League at his disposal - Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers - while the Blues also have the likes of Estevao Willian, Pedro Neto and the aforementioned Quenda as wide options.

So, while Raphinha is a superb player, Chelsea would be better off focusing their attention on bringing a new central midfielder to the club to replace the departed Enzo Fernandez, and possibly another centre-back amid their defensive woes so far this season.
