Chelsea to battle Man Utd as Alonso identifies Garnacho replacement
Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville, who is also on Manchester United’s radar this summer.
The Netherlands international scored two goals during the World Cup group stage and he is widely expected to secure a big-money move before the start of next season following West Ham’s relegation to the Championship.
Summerville was one of very few bright sparks for the Hammers last year, registering 12 goal contributions in 34 games in all competitions, and he is being monitored by several top Premier League clubs, in addition to several others across Europe.
Man Utd have been tipped to pursue a deal for the 24-year-old, having identified him as a top left winger target as they look to bolster the attacking options available to Michael Carrick, while Chelsea have now joined the race to sign him too.
That is according to The Guardian, who report that Xabi Alonso’s side are among the clubs keeping a close eye on Summerville and his West Ham team-mate Jarrod Bowen.
Chelsea are expected to sign at least one new forward this summer and Summerville has now reportedly emerged as a possible signing
However, a deal is unlikely to be agreed before the end of the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign, with Chelsea currently focused on finalising the arrival of Marco Palestra from Atalanta and potentially Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace.
Crysencio Summerville to replace Alejandro Garnacho?
Chelsea’s reported interest in Summerville comes amid rumours that Alejandro Garnacho may be sold after just one season at Stamford Bridge.
The Argentina winger arrived from Man Utd for a fee of €46.2 million last summer, however he only scored one Premier League goal during his debut season at the club and reports suggest that a sale will be considered if a suitable offer arrives.
Chelsea have already finalised a deal to sign Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP and if they bolster their attack with another new left winger this summer, it’s reasonable to think that Garnacho may be offloaded in order to make room in the squad, especially as the Blues don’t have European football in 2026-27.
